Ballads are generally sappy, and sometimes it’s the same when it comes to rock music. The tempo is slowed down and the lyrics tend to emotionally stimulate the listeners. Several of our Rockaway bands have produced some of the most ‘jiwang’ tracks that have helped feed the fans’ emotional void. Here are some of our favourite Rockaway ballads that will absolutely hit you.

Scorpions - Wind of Change

The video for this hit tune garnered more than 290 million views on YouTube in July 2016. This officially makes the Scorpions the first German band to crack the 100 million click mark. ‘Wind of Change’ has now surpassed 300 million views and there is no doubt that number will keep on increasing.

Third Eye Blind – How’s It Going To Be

This track was released as the third single from Third Eye Blind’s self-titled debut album in 1997. It deals with the trauma of ending a relationship and how the transition from friends to acquaintances is a brutal one.

Taking Back Sunday – You’re So Last Summer

This amazing track is taken off Taking Back Sunday’s debut album, Tell All Your Friends. Selling close to a billion copies, it is arguably one of the band’s most successful albums to date. The band played an acoustic set on their anniversary tour in 2012, which was later released in 2013 as the live album TAYF10 Acoustic.

Butterfingers – Mati Hidup Kembali

“Malam semalam gundah gulana. Hari ini hari mulia. Tak pernah daku rasa begini. Seperti mati hidup kembali.” Such emotions displayed!

Wings – Taman Rashidah Utama

Let’s face it, Wings are probably the kings of rock ballads in Malaysia. It wasn’t easy picking the perfect tune from them, but, we did it anyway. ‘Taman Rashidah Utama’ is taken off their Hukum Karma album, and boy, does this tune stand out! Listen carefully to the lyrics for some heart breaking poetry.

Alleycats – Sekuntum Mawar Merah Sebuah Puisi

If Wings are the kings of rock ballads, Alleycats are the ultimate ‘sifus’ of the art of ballad making. We all have our personal favourites like their classic hits, ‘Sampaikan Salam’, and ‘Andainya Aku Pergi Dulu’. We decided to pay homage to this emotionally stimulating tune that has been covered by great singers like Hattan.

One Buck Short – Ditiup Kata Rindu

This tune is a refreshing change of what fans are accustomed to by One Buck Short (OBS). The sweet and sombre lyrics were the perfect pick for a tribute to the passengers, crew and family members of flight MH370. ‘Ditiup Angin Rindu’ was covered by Rithan VJ of Deja Voodoo Spells in 2014.
